Snow and ice pushed back the CSRA Swimming Championship by a couple days, but it was worth the wait for Aaron Hendry and his Evans teammates.
Hendry helped lead the Evans boys to an overall team title at the area swim meet Friday at Augusta Aquatics Center.
The championship, initially scheduled for Wednesday, was postponed twice due to last week’s snow and ice that closed schools for multiple days.
The wait didn’t bother the Evans boys, who claimed nine event wins and totaled 553.5 points.
Greenbrier won the overall girls title with 564 points, while Lakeside finished second with 477.
Hendry, a sophomore who competed at the GHSA State Championship last year, won the 200-yard individual medley, the 100-yard breaststroke and was a part of two
“Everything went well,” said Hendry, who had qualified for six state events prior to the CSRA meet. “We’re resting up some for state, so we’re tapering a little. But I’ve been working to get stronger, and it’s cool to see times
dropping. It’s going well so far.”
Greenbrier’s boys finished second with 500.5 points.
While a few used the CSRA meet as a way to qualify for a state event, many rested in preparation for the state competition to be held Feb. 6-8 at Georgia Tech.
That didn’t stop many from claiming wins at the CSRA championship. Davidson Fine Art’s Lindsay Wallace, who had already qualified for seven state events, won the 200- and 500-yard freestyle.
Lakeside’s Katy Older, who had also qualified for seven state events, won the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly.
