Toeing the line Saturday with top teams in Class AAAAA, Columbia County harriers showed they are in line to make noise at the state cross country championships on Sunday, November 10.
At the Aubrae Gunderson meet in Conyers, Ga., the Lakeside and Greenbrier High School boys teams finished seventh and eighth, respectively, while Evans came in 12th.
Individually, there were four top-20 finishes. Lakeside junior Christian Bowles finished third, coming across the line in 15:45.54.
Bowles’ teammate Allen Clark finished sixth (16:03.19) while Evans’ Justin Weegar was eighth (16:05.48). Rounding out the top-20 was Greenbrier’s Jon Townsend, finishing 19th in 16:21.70.
On the girls side, the Lakeside Lady Panthers came in fourth with 108 points, but the only other Class AAAAA team ahead of them was Starrs Mill (92) in third place. Greenbrier’s Lady Wolfpack finished in eighth.
Like the boys, the girls registered four top-20 finishes, led by Lakeside freshman Alyssa Hooker, who placed fifth in 19:04.54. Lakeside senior Lara Way was 11th (19:53.56), Greenbrier’s Laura Shillingsburg was 14th (20:23.99) and Lakeside’s Jasmine Payne finished 18th in 20:35.39.
