Last Week: 5-0
Season total: 17-6
I am coming off a 5-0 week, but more importantly, a couple of county teams stayed unbeaten over the weekend. Harlem and Augusta Prep each improved to 4-0 with lopsided victories. Also, Lakeside continues to look like the best team in the county after it used its terrific team speed to knock off previously unbeaten Westside 39-9. This week, region play gets under way for most teams and some of the matchups look extremely difficult.
Evans (2-1) at No. 7 Warner Robins (3-0)
Last Week: Evans lost to Jefferson County 17-3 / Warner Robins beat Douglas County 34-14
Last Meeting: Warner Robins topped the Knights 34-6 last year
Warner Robins has beaten Evans 12 consecutive times and holds a 15-2 series lead. EHS showed a lot of fight last week versus a very good Jefferson County team, but this is a step up in competition, and it will likely be a little too much for Evans to handle.
Warner Robins 33 Evans 14
Greenbrier (0-3) vs. Jones County (2-1)
Last Week: Greenbrier was off / Jones County beat Putnam County 35-0
Last Meeting: Jones County won a year ago, 20-14.
Jones County has an excellent ground attack, which is what Jefferson County used to roll over the Pack.
Jones County 34 Greenbrier 10
Grovetown (1-2) at Houston County (2-1)
Last Week: Grovetown and Houston County both had bye-weeks
Last Meeting: Grovetown won a thriller over Houston County last year 27-23
Grovetown got a huge performance from Juwan Biggers in last year’s matchup. Unfortunately, Biggers graduated and Houston County seems to be improved. Add that to the game being at Houston County and I will give HC a slight edge.
Houston County 28 Grovetown 24
Harlem (4-0) vs.
Screven County (2-2)
Last Week: Harlem clobbered Social Circle 38-6 / Screven County beat Windsor Forest 42-14
Last Meeting: Screven County won last year’s contest 54-13
I am so happy for Harlem. The competition gets tougher this week as region play begins and the Gamecocks will pose plenty of problems.
Screven County 30 Harlem 25
Lakeside (2-1) at No. 1 Northside Warner Robins (3-0)
Last Week: LHS beat Westside 39-9 / NS Warner Robins was off
Last Meeting: NS Warner Robins whacked Lakeside 56-0 last year.
Since the 1998 season, Northside is an astounding 185-19.
They have won 10 or more games for 15 straight years as well.
NS Warner Robins 41 Lakeside 20
Augusta Christian (1-3) at Pinewood Prep (0-4)
Last Week: ACS lost to Fox Creek 27-20 / Pinewood Prep lost to Cardinal Newman 38-3
Last Meeting: The Lions crushed Pinewood 40-6 last year
Augusta Christian gave a valiant effort in defeat last week vs. Fox Creek. They should be able to get back on track Friday Night.
Augusta Christian 31 Pinewood Prep 13
Augusta Prep (4-0) at Westminster (5-0)
Last Week: Augusta Prep beat Georgia Force 36-7 / Westminster hammered Hancock Academy 66-0
Last Meeting: Westminster won 34-7 last season
This game will be televised by WJBF Sports at 7:30 p.m. Friday Night (Channel 380 on Comcast and Channel 246 on Wow! or Atlantic Broadband). You can also watch it from your computer or smart phone by downloading the WJBF Sports App at www.wjbf.com
Augusta Prep has one of the most potent ground attacks in the area. Its triple option attack has racked up nearly 400 rushing yards per game. Prep took one on the chin last year versus Westminster and I know the Wildcats are 5-0, but I like the Cavs to get the victory behind their tremendous group of seniors.
