Weather conditions are affecting Friday night's scheduled football contests throughout the area including the season-opener at Augusta Preparatory Day School.
Augusta Prep school officials deemed their field unplayable Friday afternoon and cancelled their game against Holy Spirit Prep.
“The water’s already ankle deep,” said Augusta Prep athletic director Tom Holodak, who was worried what the field would be like if the rain continued through the day and with the possible threat of lightning. “I don’t want Holy Spirit to come six hours on a bus here and there and not play.”
Because the game is not a division game in the Glory For Christ conference, it will not be made up.
The dedication of the Cavalier’s new stadium, planned for tonight, has been postponed until Friday, August 23, when the Cavaliers play host to Bethlehem Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m.

The Grovetown scrimmage against Josey has also been postponed. The two teams will meet at Grovetown next week at a yet-to-be-determined date and time.
As of 2:45 p.m., Evans’ Friday-night scrimmage at Thomson was still slated to be played.
