In 2012, first-year head coach Rebekkah Bullard had an interesting year with the Harlem High School Lady Bulldogs volleyball squad.

The team finished with a 3-21 record but still advanced to the Georgia High School Association Class AA state playoffs.

Before the 2012 season began, Bullard had a pre-tryout camp at the school which was attended by 18 girls, which eventually became 12 players on the varsity squad and six on the junior varsity. Bullard reprised her camp this year from Tuesday to Saturday and almost doubled the attendance with 35 participants.

“We went to the state playoffs for the first time in four years and that was kind of a big deal for them,” said Bullard of her returning players, adding that word of mouth and excitement for the upcoming season was the biggest reason for the uptick.

Official tryouts for the Lady Bulldogs volleyball team will be Thursday, August 1 and Friday, August 2 from noon to 2 p.m. and Monday, August 5 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
