Heading into its second season, the East Georgia Pop Warner association will kick off the summer with a bang.
On Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2, Atlanta Falcon linebacker Sean Weatherspoon will partner with AthElite and Dick’s Sporting Goods to put on the first EGPW football camp at Grovetown High School.
The camp will last from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.
“It’s going to be huge,” said EGPW CEO Jimmy Cronan. “They found us just by looking online. Mr. Weatherspoon said he had some time between June and July before he goes to OTAs [Organized Team Activities] and they found us just by looking at us on the internet. We’re expecting a huge turnout.”
Cronan expected that the 130 allotted slots would be filled.
Ryan Bowers is the head trainer and owner of AthElite and played for NFL Europe and the Arena Football League and will be handling the speed and agility portions of the camp. He was glad to be a part of the camp.
“The idea is to raise money for Pop Warner and give kids the opportunity to be around some professional athletes, a guy like Sean Weatherspoon and whoever he decides to bring into town and we’re going to bring some other guys into town,” Bowers said.
