The Lakeside girls and boys tennis teams entered the 2012-2013 GHSA Class AAAAA Girls and Boys State Tennis Tournaments as No. 1 seeds and they played like it Tuesday afternoon.
Both Lakeside squads dispatched No. 4 Richmond Hill in short order, each winning 5-0.
The Panthers ran their record to 17-2 with the win while the girls improved to 18-1.
Leading the way in singles for the Lady Panthers was Kayla Hergott who beat Jenny Wang 6-0, 6-0; Taylor Richards defeated Caroline Cox 6-0, 6-0 and Anneliese Leahy trumped Ashley Harkuess 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles the duo of Sara Hess and Alexis Ellis topped Bailey Croy and Makella Bergsmith 6-0, 6-0 while Katie Burton and Brittany McLeod knocked out Haley Smith and Ali Wells 6-3, 6-0.
The boys were almost as dominant. Sam Dromksy led the singles by downing Hank Ferendo 6-0, 6-0; Drew Harris defeated Jeff Fortier 6-0, 6-0 and Elliott Bull cruised by Kevin Zhu, 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles, Andrew Bowles and William O’Gorman beat Zaak Hinz and Geoffrey Delsartd 6-2, 6-0 and Nathaniel Schwartz and Stefan Haerle got by KJ Kim and Michael Miller, 7-5, 6-2.
Both squads will have home matches in the second round with opponents, dates and times to be determined.
