Columbia County teams dominated the CSRA Championships at the Augusta Aquatic Center Tuesday night.
With Aquinas, Westside, Davidson Fine Arts and Cross Creek thrown into the mix, Greenbrier High School continued what it accomplished during the dual season and the Columbia County Championships a week prior, coming away with two top finishes.
The Wolfpack won two events – CJ Simmons in the 1-meter dive and Brennan Day in the 500-yard freestyle – and placed either second or third in nine other events while outpointing Evans 530 to 433. Lakeside came in third with 326 points; Grovetown was eighth with 72.
Evans dominated the top of the leaderboard, winning the other 10 events. The Knights’ talented young lineup did not disappoint as sophomore Mitchell Petras (200 freestyle, 100 backstroke), sophomore Joey Thornton (200 individual medley, 100 butterfly) and junior Luca Castresana (50 free, 100 free) each won two events while freshman Aaron Hendry was tops in the 100 breaststroke. They also swam well as a team, capturing the 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays.
The Lady Wolfpack won with 540 points followed by Lakeside (434) and Evans (278.5), with Grovetown placing sixth with 139 points.
Rebecca Troutman paced the Lady Wolfpack with first place finishes in the 200 IM and 100 breast. Leah Haney won the 50 free, Ayanna Woods was tops in 1 meter diving and Meghan Blair won the 100 free.
The Lady Wolfpack also won the 400 free relay with Lakeside taking first in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.
