The Clarks Hill Fish for Life Foundation had so much success with its three spring events, it added another in the fall.
The Kids Fishing Rodeo and Family Day begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Wildwood Park in Appling. The only cost is the $3 per vehicle park entrance fee.
“We’ve been having them in the spring and we’ve had so many people respond wanting us to put on another one, we decided to do another one,” said Ron Brown, the CEO of the Clarks Hill Fish for Life Foundation.
Brown said the event has grown from 60 children the first year to 300 last spring.
There will be a fishing rodeo for ages 2 to 8 and 9 to 13 with prizes for categories such as biggest fish and most fish caught. Brown doesn’t want anyone to go home empty-handed.
“We try to make sure every kid walks away with some kind of prize,” he said.
For those who don’t know how to fish, volunteers will be on hand to assist..
Brown wants to get a new generation interested in his outdoor event.
“We want to get ’em out of the room with the computers and get them out into some fresh air and teach them about the sport,” Brown said.
