Two locals recently participated in the 2012 Red Bull AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship.
Grovetown 6-year-old Trip Rexroat made his first trip to the qualifiers-only event on the Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., riding in the Stock Shaft Drive division. In three races he was 16th, second and fifth, finishing seventh overall.
He started fast out of the gate in his first race before wrecking in a collision. He was second-to-last after starting again and worked his way back up to 16th.
“We were happy with his seventh overall,” wrote his mother Jennifer in an e-mail.
Mason Beasley, who just began his freshman year at Evans High School, ended the summer on a high note. In two events, his highest finish was in the 250 C Stock Modified class where he finished seventh overall. His best of the three motos was the second race, in which he placed third behind the eventual first- and second-place finishers. In the 250 C Modified class, Beasley was 23rd.
Beasley said racing at the event was a goal since he was seven years old.
“I think that the seventh place finish is great considering I raced among the top 40 250 C class riders in the nation,” he wrote in an e-mail. “To now be considered seventh in the nation in my class is a huge accomplishment.”
