Special Photos The Italian-American Club of the CSRA awarded a scholastic scholarship to Anthony "Tony" Perella, the son of Chuck and Donna Perella of Evans. Tony, a graduate of Lakeside High School, will attend Mercer University and has signed on to play football this fall. He plans to major in engineering.
Armstrong Atlantic State's Clayton Miller was named a Capital One Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The Lakeside High School graduate, the 2010 Class AAAA Baseball Player of the Year, was named to the third team as a designated hitter. He has a 3.37 GPA while studying rehabilitation sciences. Miller hit .287 with one home run and 27 RBI in 2012, helping the Pirates capture the Peach Belt Conference regular season and tournament titles. In May, Miller was named to the 2012 Peach Belt Baseball All-Academic Team.
