Will Rabb will continue to be a busy student-athlete when he heads to college next fall.
The Evans High School senior held a ceremony Thursday to announce his plans to attend Reinhardt University, where he will run cross country in the fall and play tennis in the spring.
While he liked the atmosphere of the university in Waleska, Ga., it really came down to one thing.
“They offered me the most money,” said Rabb. “(Also) I really liked the campus, and I really connected with the coaches.”
Rabb essentially will have a free ride to Reinhardt with money from the two sports as well as winning a Dean’s Scholarship for secondary math and education.
“I’m very proud of him,” said his mother Stephanie Basinger. “He had a goal. He really wanted to do cross country and tennis and at several schools it was just cross country or just tennis.”
Rabb has been running cross country since his freshman year and playing tennis for about 12 years. If he had to choose between the two, that selection would be clear-cut.
“I would pick tennis because tennis is my favorite sport,” Rabb said.
While running cross country in the fall, he will be simultaneously training for tennis and vice-versa. Rabb, who wants to be a teacher, will also be studying to get his degree in secondary math and education.
”It’s something I really want to do,” he said. “I like math and I really like helping other guys and girls.”
