On an early release day, Lakeside senior Spencer Plunkett came back to school.
The Panthers wide receiver took part in a signing ceremony in the school’s media center Thursday afternoon to announce the continuation of his football career at Reinhardt University.
Plunkett made the choice after a visit to the school about a month ago.
“I came back and it left a good impression on me when I went up there,” Plunkett said of the NAIA school in Waleska, Ga. “I wanted to think it over, weigh my options.”
Though Plunkett said he likes the atmosphere, the facilities and that it’s a new program – play starts in 2013 – the primary selling point is the way Reinhardt approaches education.
“One thing they stressed and made me feel good about is they have really good academics over there,” Plunkett said.
While September is a ways off, Plunkett is making sure he’ll be ready when he gets there.
“After the season was over, I took a good break,” he said. “I was a little burned out I guess. Last week, I started running and lifting and getting back in shape, trying to get myself ready to go up there and make a good impression on them.”
A good impression was something he left on Lakeside head football coach Jarrett Troxler.
“He was very solid in blocking and doing things the right way and was one of our most dependable, consistent wide receivers,” Troxler said.
