Gordon Park Speedway opened its 2012 season on Saturday, just one day after a fierce storm brought high winds and dumped rain on the track. Tony Friar and the track crew repaired the damage to the car and go-kart track in time for Saturday’s races.
Crate racer Gib Gibbons, who set the track qualifying record at Modoc Speedway last year, set a pole speed of 14.031 at the newly designed Gordon Park Speedway. Gibbons went on to win the Crate Late Model race.
In the Super Street division, Andy Stewart held off a late challenge by Kenneth Harn to win while Jeff Hadden, who led much of the race, finished third.
Dale Wisnieski took the checkered flag in Stock V8, R.J. Thomas won in Super Stock 4, and Kevin O’Brien won the Extreme 4 division.
Michelle Beck won in Powder Puff division, while John Kessinger III picked up his first career win in Young Guns.
Racing resumes Saturday when Gordon Park features an increased purse race for Stock V8 drivers.
