The wrestling season concluded at the Georgia High School Association Class AAA and AAAA State Wrestling Tournament held Thursday-Saturday at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga.

Grovetown’s 138-pounder Brandon Nylen represented Columbia County, wrestling in the Georgia AAA tournament. He lost his opening-round bout with Woodward Academy’s Chad Pyke by a technical fall 21-6. He faced Richard Spinks of Central in the bottom half of the bracket and was ousted from the double elimination tournament 19-3.

In AAAA, Shane Wuchte represented Greenbrier at 182 pounds, losing his first two matches. First he was outscored by James Triplett of Hardaway 7-5. Then, against Fayette County’s John Beck, he lost another close one 6-4.

From Lakeside, 195-pounder Brad Sankey lost 3-1. He rebounded to win 3-1 over Tyler Smith of Soeffing, but could not advance after taking a 2-1 loss to OLA’s Jaden Smith.

Sean Gaddy, Lakeside’s 220-pounder, was the only wrestler to make it past the first round unscathed, taking down Curran McMahon of Pope in just 15 seconds. He saw the tables turned in his second-round tussle when Lambert’s Gantt Bauer pinned him 57 seconds into the match. Gaddy’s tournament continued with a pin at 1:57 against Sam Arrington of Johns Creek, but ended in the ensuing match with a 2-1 decision against Alonzo Milton of Clark Central.
