After a successful event in its initial year in 2012, powerboat racing is back in Columbia County.

Friday through Sunday, American Power Boat Association racers will be at Pollard’s Cove at Clarks Hill Lake vying for the top spot in the Wildwood Park Regatta.

“Last year was the first year we ever did it and it turned out pretty well,” said Jeb Bell, Wildwood Park coordinator. “We had maybe 50 boats and we’re expecting the same amount, maybe a few more. Anywhere from early teens to 60-year-old people are going to be up here in this event.”

Former Greenbrier and Georgia Tech Star Brandon Cumpton has earned a second start for the Pittsburgh Pirates after an impressive debut over the weekend. The 24-year old righthander worked into the sixth inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers, allowing seven hits and three runs, and earning a no-decision in the Pirates 5-3 loss.

Tuesday, Division 1 West Lake (546) went head-to-head with North Augusta YMCA (235).

It was a heated meet Tuesday night when Farmington played host to Brynwood in CSRA Swim League Division 2 action.

With 255 swimmers participating in the dual meet, the majority of the events–not counting the relays–had multiple heats to determine winners. So, after four-plus hours, the Tide of Brynwood went home with the 485.5-310.5 win.

Both teams moved up from Division 3 this year, and Tide coach Belinda Waters thought the win was an important one in the team’s first official meet of the year as multiple swimmers got to race.
