Heartsong Animal Rescue is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that relies on donations to continue the rescue effort. Located in Martinez, Heartsong rescues from 10 counties. All animals are current on their vaccinations (age appropriate). All dogs are microchipped. All pets are spayed/neutered and cats are litter-box trained before placement. Pit bull bites mother and son in Appling 04/20/12 - 11:17pm

An Appling woman was issued two county ordinance citations Thursday when her pit bull bit a mother and son.

A 28-year-old mother was asked Thursday evening by her son to walk him to a friend’s house because he was afraid of a dog that had previously ran at him near a residence on Jacqueline Drive in Appling.

As they returned home from the friend’s house, a black and white pit bull ran toward them, snapping and barking at the pair.

The mother tried throwing rocks at the dog to scare it away, but it chased after them.

Rain, warm weather means mosquitoes 03/04/12 - 1:13am

Gardeners look for warm weather and rain when they are trying to grow plants.

Many gardeners are taking advantage of the weather and working in their gardens, and the rain is welcome because we have been in a drought.

But there is a downside to all this: mosquitoes. Spring and summer rains can cause a population explosion.

I recently was attacked by mosquitoes while working in the yard.

(706) 541-4077 or visit www.columbiacountyga.gov and follow the links to Animal Services. Adult
animals cost $25 to adopt, and puppies and kittens cost $20. All adopted animals must be spayed or
neutered. Visitors must wear closed-toed shoes to visit the kennel area, which is open from 10 a.m. to 6
p.m. on weekdays. The facility is located at 1940 William Few Parkway.
