• Aiken County Public Schools’ Adult Education Department has partnered with Goodwill Industries’ Aiken Job Connection to offer GED FastTrack Prep and Work Keys classes. The classes are being held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Aiken Goodwill Job Connection, 1015 Pine Log Road, Aiken. Students can enroll anytime. • The Watson-Brown Foundation Inc. is accepting scholarship applications for 2012-13 awards. Two hundred scholarships of $3,000 to $5,000 per year for the first four years of undergraduate studies will be awarded. Scholarship application deadline is Feb. 15. • The North Augusta High School Freshman Academy Expo will begin at 6:15 p.m. Monday with a meet-and-greet in the auditorium lobby. Principal Todd Bornscheuer and Kathy Mottel will speak at 6:30 p.m., followed by the expo in the gym lobby from 7 to 8 p.m., when there will be information about school clubs and organizations for incoming freshmen.

• The American Legion Auxiliary Unity 71 sponsored a national writing contest for Area 2 schools. The theme was “How can I show my patriotism in my community?” The following pupils placed in the contest: third through fourth grades: Macey Hughes, first place; Alton McCurry, second place; and Ryan Hendrick, third place; fifth grade: Alexis Williams, first place; Meredith Gregory, second place; and Neely Gregory, third place. The first place winners will compete against other Area 2 first place winners.

• The following pupils have become members of the Double H Reading Club: CJ Prescott, Ella Traxler, Michael Cohen, Angeni Escalera, Nicholas Erwin, Brooklyn Winburn, Jade Young, Dominique Mays, Brett Stevens, Lana Medlock, Marley Sleister, Ryan Franklin, Emily Adkinson, Charlee Hutt, Chantz Kight and Will Tate. 200 Books: Marie Adkinson.

• World’s Finest Chocolate fundraiser orders are due Feb. 15. The top two sellers will be treated to lunch with Ms. Vaughan.

• Gateway auditions are Feb. 18 at Kennedy Middle School. Those who submitted an application by the Dec. 5 deadline will receive a time for their audition. Mrs. Noland will look over portfolios for pupils applying for the visual arts area. Pupils should follow the guidelines for the three artworks required in the portfolio.

• Interim reports will be issued Feb. 15.

• The school is hosting a districtwide sudoku tournament at 6 p.m. Thursday in the school’s cafeteria. The competitors will be pupils in third through fifth grades who placed in the top five at their school. Prizes will be given. Pizza and other snacks will be available for purchase during the tournament.

• The following made the Principal's Wall of Fame: Tommy Faro, Jovie Brown, Monae Burns, Cassady Fortson, Maggie Johnson, Juan Garcia, Tegarius Kea and Charisma Gorman.

• Students of the Month for February are: Kindergarten: Trinity Brown, Jim William Costello, Maverick Sherlock, Emmanuel Jordan, NyQuan Curry, Lilly Fox, Nolan Sweat and Yandel Ramirez; first grade: Lizbeidy Ramirez-Aviles, Tristan Buchanan, Jordan Jennings, Liam Garcia, Dezmas Riley, Caden Kincaid and Logan Edwards; second grade: Parker Watkins, Chazzlyn Mack, Sage Riley and Taryn Wiley; third grade: Alonzo James, Preslee Trahan, Leanna Catoe, Coen Najmola and Tristin Knight; fourth grade: Freddie Gray, Malazia Broadwater, Cameron Cook and Spencer Thaxton; and fifth grade: Ashley Broulliard, Tyler Warrick, Reagan Finnerty, Mya Burns and Ashton Burke.

• Kindergarten will continue to sell carnations through Friday.

• Jump Rope for Heart will be held Monday through Feb. 17 during P.E.

• The following made the book club: 200 books: Ansley Gartrell, Ethan Chastain, Hannah Chastain, Nicholas Toole and Hannah McClure; 300 books: Jaylen Bunch; 400 books: Bobby Shelton; 800 books: Grady Walker; page master: Samuel Rendon and Tony Caldwell; and page master II: Laura Bachelder and Samuel Rendon.

Katie Gates was named the 2012-13 Teacher of the Year for the school.

Our Lady of Peace

• PTO meetings will be held Feb. 15, March 21 and April 18. Attendance earns one hour toward the required 30 family stewardship hours.

• The student council is sponsoring a Valentine Dance 6-9 p.m. Friday. Admission is $2.
