ST. SIMONS ISLAND — I decided to not work the last week of December and the first few days of 2016, but, alas, I can’t help myself. I’m sitting at my mother’s house in Anderson, S.C., on Christmas Day writing this.
On the way up, I saw a nice little Baptist church sitting in the country, with a Christmas wreath on the doors and burglar bars over the windows. If that’s not sad, not much is.
But, happily, I went out for coffee in my shirtsleeves on Christmas Day and saw a rainbow. That was a first.
