It’s that time of year when we’ll eat to excess, take naps to sleep it off, and then get up in time for a Black Friday shopping marathon.
As you head to the Christmas sales, remember that not everyone is quite so fortunate. With that in mind, we’d like to encourage setting aside spare change, or more, to support organizations to help the needy among us this holiday season. Here are a couple of Columbia County organizations that do an especially good job in that regard:
• The Columbia County Foundation for Children (www.ccfchildren.com) helps struggling families in our community, and the needs are especially noticeable during Christmas when our affluence makes even mild poverty look painfully obvious.
• Columbia County Cares Food Pantry (706-541-2834) feeds the hungry year-round, but is especially tasked to do so during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. They’d welcome contributions of non-perishable items. Monetary donations are especially welcome because of the buying power they’re able to harness in partnership with Golden Harvest Food Bank.
Enjoy your blessings this Thanksgiving – and share what you can.
