Write-in for Darwin lightens heavy mood

Posted: October 31, 2012 - 12:05am

In a season in which there is far too much seriousness in the political arena, it’s good to see occasional humor injected into the process.

U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, a physician, recently drew attention for a speech to a church group in which he denounced evolution and other scientific theories as “lies straight from the pit of hell.” To counter, a group rallied Friday in the Athens Republican’s hometown to urge a write-in vote in the 10th District congressional race for Charles Darwin.

Broun is unopposed in the Nov. 4 election, and is in no danger of being unseated– especially not by someone who’s been dead for 130 years. Still, it can’t hurt to lighten the mood a little, can it?

Religious beliefs are not a standard for political office

And if you are a Bible believing Christian, you would have the same personal belief at Broun. Broun is not going to mandate another "monkey trial". Just like Romney is not going to ask if he can be baptized for your entire family that you would be saved.

But politicians will say whatever fits their audience. 100% of the time. In the Moment morality.
