Re Debra Roache’s letter concerning discrimination in sports because of size (Oct. 10):
There is nothing harder than seeing the child you love unable to participate in a certain sport because he or she comes up short in height or weight. This has happened in my family also. My grandson didn’t even have to be told. He knew, and his father knew, and steered him to a sport that he could play successfully. This young man now has an athletic scholarship and is doing well in college.
So, cheer up, mom; help your boy accept what cannot be changed and encourage him to get out there. There is always a spot for a good kid in some athletic activity.
I know he will find his niche just as my grandson did.
