County needs Benedict as a 'watchdog'

Editor:

Columbia County needs a fiscal conservative to serve as a watchdog for the taxpaying public, someone with a fresh perspective who will not mindlessly follow the “business as usual” approach taken by governing bodies that are out of touch with the average citizen.

I urge all residents in Commission District 2 who are interested in restoring honesty and integrity to the seat to cast their vote for Lee Benedict on July 31.

I find Benedict to be a straight-shooter, someone who will not simply “go along to get along” when it comes to matters of principle.

Is he outspoken? Yes. Is he blunt? Yes. Would he be a much-needed breath of fresh air? Absolutely.

Benedict would be a true servant to the people. And though he is not the candidate anointed by the county’s ruling elite, considering the dubious “accomplishments” of the incumbent – who is the anointed candidate – that distinction is not a negative.

Complacency and disengagement among Columbia County residents in recent years has enabled some of the officials who lord over the public largesse to actually start thinking it belongs to them instead of the people, and that their actions will carry no meaningful repercussions from the everyday populace. They are anticipating that you will, once again, stay home and not cast a ballot. Prove them wrong.

Bring honesty and integrity back and vote for Lee Benedict on July 31.
