Editor:
I enjoyed Barry Paschal’s column in the Wednesday News-Times, but it had some incorrect information. Cystic fibrosis is not cured by a lung transplant.
The symptoms may be relieved and the person with CF can live a more normal life, but CF is caused by a recessive gene (both parents must have the gene). A lung transplant does not change the gene. CF disease manifests itself in both digestive and pulmonary systems.
My oldest daughter, Lisa, was diagnosed with CF at the age of 18 months. At that time, life expectancy was 5 years of age.
