The federal government selected the Savannah River Site in South Carolina to be the world’s nuclear waste dump. To commemorate this honor, a statue similar to the statue of liberty ought to be erected at the entrance of the Savannah River Site.
The statue should be holding a Geiger counter instead of a torch and wearing radioactive protective clothing. Beneath, the inscription should read, Give me your tired plutonium, your poor spent nuclear fuel. Your huddled masses of radioactive waste yearning to be stored. The wretched, toxic refuse of your teeming shore. I lift up my Geiger counter beside the secure entrance of Savannah River Site.
