Bartley is an honest and knowledgeable candidate

Dear editor:

Steve Crawford’s Jan. 26 piece, “Jim Bartley announces run against Ron Cross for commission chairman,” caused me to smile. I have known Jim for roughly seven years and have served on the Columbia County Republican Party Executive Board with him. Also, I have been in opposing campaigns’ camps, once being the candidate.

Never have I heard him say nor read anything he wrote that was not true, and, he usually cited or referenced his remarks. In short, he knows his stuff.

Jim is outspoken and fervent on governmental affairs matters. He is just one of the many Americans fed up with good old boys and their select few friends calling the shots, shielding public information from the public, and going above and beyond abusing the bully pulpit as Ron Cross has.

Even though we weren’t real buddy-buddy years ago, I believe that Jim Bartley will be a great Commission Chairman, and now that he’s a candidate for public office and this paper is under new leadership, his statesman qualities will shine and people will see him in an accurate light and thus make an informed decision.

May Work This Time

Bartley may do it this time. Columbia County residents have concerns. Kay Allen’s misdeeds have stunned the county. There are questions if the Commission should have done more to prevent what she did for many years. Ron Cross has been in office for a long time and his decision to seek office again disappointed many. Long enough is long enough. We hear about him making hundreds of thousands after buying property where a county road change later increased the value tremendously. All that has many thinking it’s time for a change.
