4-H pecan sale

Columbia County 4-H has pecans for sale by the pound, with proceeds benefitting student programs in the county. Each pound is $14 and comes in a resealable plastic container with a special 4-H label. Pecans can be paid for and picked up at the 4-H office located at 6420 Pollards Pond Road, Appling, GA. For more information contact the UGA extension office at (706) 541-4011.

Santa Paws pet donation drive

Through Dec. 18, Columbia County Animal Services is holding its annual Santa Paws Program. Animal Services will receive applications from citizens in need of a little help with animals. The program accepts donations and Santa delivers the goodies to furry friends during the Christmas season. Items needed include for dogs and cats; pet food, beds, grooming certificates, toys, dog treats, cat litter, collars or leashes, dog houses, vaccine certificates, flea and tick prevention, and spay/neuter certificates. Donations are accepted at Columbia County Animal Services, 1940 William Few Parkway, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays (or drop off after hours on weekends). Commission meeting notice

For the month of December, all five Columbia County committee meetings (Audit, Management & Internal Services, Development & Engineering Services, Public Work Services, and Community & Emergency Services) will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 12. Audit will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the other committees immediately following in the order listed above

Pottery classes

The Harlem Arts Council presents Pottery with Angelika Bondar from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., Thursdays, Dec. 7 and 14. No experience needed. A series of two classes includes materials, firing and glazing; Cost is $40 and includes materials. Contact Angelika at (706) 394-4682

Orchestra Christmas Concert

The Columbia County Orchestra Christmas Concert will take place at 7 p.m., Thursday, at the Augusta Scottish Rite Center, 2553 Washington Rd., Augusta. A dessert social will follow the concert and this event is free to the public. Augustascottishrite.org

Bead and wire wrapped wine glasses

The Harlem Arts Council presents Bead and Wire Wrapped Wine Glasses with Jeanne Stanford from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with lunch break, Friday, Dec. 8. Each student will receive two wine glasses, or you can bring your own. Cost is $30 with all beads, stencils and ink provided. Minimum of three students. Contact Jeanne at (330) 592-2256

4-H Holiday Dance

Calling all Columbia County 5th and 6th graders. 4-H will be hosting a Fun Night Holiday Dance at Savannah Rapids Pavilion from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 12. The entrance Fee is $5. The dress is festive and parents MUST come inside to drop off students. Concessions available for sale including pizza, and a Winter Wonderland photo booth. Everything will be priced between $1-$2. Parents welcome to come inside to shop the 4-H holiday craft fair. Nothing will be over $20. Items for sale include baby blankets, hats, wreaths, scarf sets, afghans, home decor, jewelry, etc.

Guitar lesssons

Charles Dickens Christmas

Internationally known storyteller Tim Lowry from Summerville, S.C. will act as Charles Dickens at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 23 at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church at 3551 Wheeler Road in Augusta. Fort Gordon retiree council

The Fort Gordon Retiree Council meets quarterly to keep the Fort Gordon command structure aware of issues, concerns and needs of the military retiree population of all branches of service in the Fort Gordon area of responsibility. Tax-aide volunteers are needed to join our team of local volunteers for the upcoming tax season. You'll receive training and materials in a welcoming environment. Kiwanis Club

The Columbia County Kiwanis club holds its monthly networking events the second Tuesday of every month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at TBonz in Evans. Club members, friends and relatives are welcome to attend the informal get-together each month. Friends are welcome to attend.

Pet food drive

Pawprints Foundation and Long Dog Rescue are accepting donations of dog, cat, puppy and kitten food year-round at Animal House, Wild Birds Unlimited, Grovetown Farm & Garden, Vineyard Wine Market and Martinez/National Hills Animal Hospitals. The Columbia County Harlem Library Branch holds a book club meeting monthly the third Thursday of the month at 4 p.m.

Female veterans
