Rock painting for adults

The Columbia County library Harlem branch will hold an adult rock painting class at 2 p.m. July 26. Pre-registration required.

Lunch and Learn

The Columbia County Library will hold Environment Matters Lunch and Learn at 11:30 a.m. July 26. Join eco-lady Margarete Alligood and a featured speaker for valuable eco-gardening and lawn-care tips. Musical

Curtains, the Musical will run from 7 p.m. Friday, July 28, through 3 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at Greenbrier High School in Evans. The board of education will conduct a dedication ceremony for the new Harlem Middle School at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the new school, 424 Hawes Branch Pkwy. in Harlem.

National Night Out

Grovetown will hold National Night Out from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Liberty Park Community Center. Grovetown neighborhoods are invited to join cities throughout Georgia for National Night Out (Please turn on all outside porch lights). National Night Out encourages law enforcement and communities to strengthen neighborhoods by getting to know one another to keep communities safe and promote community partnerships. National Night Out sends a message to criminals that you are standing up against them by forming an alliance with your neighbors and police.

The dedication ceremony of the new Grovetown Elementary School will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at the school, 300 Ford Ave. in Grovetown.

Kids fest

Columbia County Community Events presents KidsFest at Evans Towne Center Park at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5. It is the largest hands-on, creative festival in the CSRA, with more than 100,000 square feet of interactive fun.

Back to School Bash

The Rosemont Baptist Association will host a community back-to-school event from noon-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at the Rosemont Association Building, 5463 Burks Mountain Road in Appling. There will be barbers and hairstylists giving complimentary basic haircuts, styles and nail polishing services to children ages 5-16 years old.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Department will be on site to do fingerprinting and identification cards for children. Also, a seamstress will do basic alterations for kids clothing on site. Refreshments, games and school supplies will be provided.

GreenJackets Community night

The Columbia County Chamber of Commerce and the Augusta GreenJackets will hold a Columbia County Community Night at Lake Olmstead Stadium at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8. Beverage prices will be half price during the game. Contact Tom Denlinger at (706) 736-7889 for package deals.

The Columbia County library Harlem branch will hold a Factionless Fun Teen Book Club at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10. Group will discuss teen books and movies and make a fun craft.

Civil War Roundtable

The monthly meeting of the Civil War Roundtable of Augusta will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 21, Goodwill's Snelling Center, 3165 Washington Road, Augusta. Brian Jordan, assistant professor of history at Sam Houston State University, is the author of Marching Home: Union Veterans and their Unending Civil War, a narrative history of the men who won the war but could not bear the peace.

The book was a finalist for the 2016 Pulitzer Prize in History and won the George Washington Egleston Prize for best U.S. history dissertation at Yale. Cost is $15 and includes dinner. www.civilwarroundtableaugustaga.com.

Fort Gordon retiree council

The Fort Gordon Retiree Council meets quarterly. The group's aim is to keep the Fort Gordon command structure aware of issues, concerns and needs impacting the military retiree population (of all branches of service) in the Fort Gordon area of responsibility. Pawprints Foundation and Long Dog Rescue are accepting donations of dog, cat, puppy and kitten food year-round at Animal House, Wild Birds Unlimited, Grovetown Farm & Garden, Vineyard Wine Market and Martinez/National Hills Animal Hospitals.
