Pottery with Angelika

Harlem Arts Council presents Pottery with Angelika Border from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m Wednesday Jan. 18 and 25 and Feb. 1 at the Harlem Senior Center. Learn how to make pottery using only your hands. No experience needed.

Classes include all materials, firing the clay and glazing. Participants must be at least 50 years old. All four classes are needed to complete the pottery. The Evans Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, in conjunction with the Brown Family, will hold a memorial service for Pvt. Joshua A. Brown, CSA, at the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15 (weather permitting). The cemetery is at the intersection of Old Union Church Road and Louisville Road.

Civil War Round Table of Augusta will meet Monday at 6 p.m., Jan. 16. The monthly meeting will feature Robert E. Bonner, Chair of the Department of History at Dartmouth College, who will present a biographical study of Confederate Vice-President Alexander H. Stephens titled: "Master of Lost Causes." Appling resident releases CD

^

Appling resident Tanner Duckworth will perform a free concert at Trinity Baptist Church located at 4594 Columbia Road in Martinez at 6 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 22, to mark the release of his debut CD "Goin' Home." The CD features solo fingerstyle guitar pieces ranging from traditional gospel to Americana. Goin' Home will be released and available to the general public for the first time after the concert. The public is welcome and invited to attend.

Krutov visit

Alex Krutov, author of "Infinitely More" and co-founder of The Harbor in St. Petersburg, Russia, will speak at Wesley United Methodist Church, located at 825 N. Belair Road in Evans, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. Alex will share about his life from being abandoned at 3 days old, to life in Russian orphanages to co-founding The Harbor, a program for aged out orphans that assists them through mentoring and preparing them for adulthood. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office will again be holding a Citizen's Law Enforcement Academy beginning Thursday, March 9. This "free" course is offered each Thursday evening (6:30 p.m.-9 p.m.) for 10 weeks, and is open to Columbia County residents 18 years of age and older.
