Civil War group

The Civil War Roundtable of Augusta meets Jan. 20 at Goodwill’s Snelling Center on Furys Ferry Road. Karen Stokes, author and archivist for the South Carolina Historical Society, will present “The Immortal 600: Surviving Civil War Charleston and Savannah.” Dinner at 6 p.m., followed by program at 6:45 p.m. For more information, call roundtable president Gwen Fulcher Young at (706) 736-2909.

Choir concert

The internationally renowned St. Olaf Choir and Conductor Anton Armstrong present a concert at St. John United Methodist Church, 736 Greene St., Augusta, at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11. The concert will feature sacred and secular masterpieces, as well as music for chorus and grand pipe organ. Driver safety

AARP Driver Safety Program will be held 9 a.m., Jan. 21 at Patriot’s Park, 5445 Columbia Road, Grovetown, GA., $20 tuition fee. You may be eligible for auto insurance discount. You must call to register, (706) 863-2865. AARP membership is not required to attend this course. Bring lunch and beverage if desired.

Poetry project

The Poetry Matters Project and Columbia County Library team up to sponsor the third worshop for teens at the library. The workshop titled How to Submit Prize Winning Poetry will take place from 4-5:30 p.m., Jan. 21 at Columbia County Library, 722 Evans Town Center Blvd. in the lower level classroom. The workshop facilitator will be Lucinda Clark, founder and contest coordinator of the Poetry Matters Project. The event is free and open to the public. Sierra Club meets

The Sierra Club will meet Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room, Unitarian Universalist Church, 3501 Walton Way Ext. Matthew Kelly of Honey Creek Mushrooms will discuss the role of mushrooms in cuisine, medicine, and ecology. Open to the public, no charge. Republican meeting

The Columbia County Republican Party will hold a breakfast meeting at 9 a.m., Saturday Jan. 25 at The Garlic Clove, 4534 Washington Road, Evans. The guest speakers are State Rep. Barry Fleming and Nancy Gay from the Columbia County Board of Elections. Breakfast is $8.

Parkinson’s group
