Awakening faith

Saint Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 4921 Columbia Road, Grovetown, will be offering an 11-week program of faith renewal titled Awakening Faith. This is a conversation-based program that gives inactive or marginally active Catholics a forum where they reconnect with their faith.

Topics include individual spirituality, the Trinity, Mass, forgiveness, faith, love and marriage to name a few. The series will begin on Jan. 7, 7:30-9 p.m. at the home of Mary and Deacon Joe Soparas. For more information go online to www.st-teresa.com, or call (706) 364-9289.

Writers meeting

The CSRA Writers group meets on the third Monday of every month. This month the group meets a week earlier, on Jan. 13, due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, at Georgia Military College on Davis Road in Martinez at 6:30 pm. All are invited to attend. Pageant announced

The 2014 Miss Augusta and Miss Savannah River Pageant will be held at Greenbrier High School on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. The competition will feature swimwear, evening, talent and onstage questions. The winners will represent our community at the 2014 Miss Georgia pageant in Columbus, Ga., in June.

Alzheimer’s education

The Alzheimer’s Association is offering a three-part educational series specifically designed to target the needs of early-stage Alzheimer’s caregivers. The Living With Alzheimer’s: for Caregivers – Early-Stage, will be held on Tuesdays, Jan. 14, 21 and 28, 2-3:30 p.m. at the Alzheimer’s Association, 106 SRP Drive, Suite A, Evans.

It will highlight the special needs and concerns of Alzheimer’s caregivers in the earliest stage of diagnosis. During the program, the Alzheimer’s Association will provide insight on topics such as the meaning of the diagnosis, planning for the future, available resources, and how you can help a family suffering from this disease.

Republican women

Greater Columbia County Republican Women will meet Thursday, Jan. 9, at Be My Guest Catering and Events, 4216 Washington Road, Evans. The guest speaker is Dr. Linda Tucciarone, executive director of Heritage Academy.

Civil War group

Civil War Roundtable of Augusta meets Jan. 20 at Goodwill’s Snelling Center on Furys Ferry Road. Karen Stokes, author and archivist for the South Carolina Historical Society, presents “The Immortal 600: Surviving Civil War Charleston and Savannah.” Dutch treat dinner at 6 p.m., followed by program at 6:45 p.m. Visitors always welcome.
