The University of North Georgia has announced academic achievements for Columbia County students. The school conferred undergraduate and graduate degrees on 1,278 graduates in commencement ceremonies. They included: Kevin Whitney Wish, Martinez, bachelor of science- physical education/exercise science concentration; Matthew Ryan Hutto, Evans, bachelor of science - criminal justice; and Zachary Steven Brooks, Evans, bachelor of science - physics.
For their academic performance during spring semester 2013, the following students were named to the University of North Georgia president’s list. Students achieving a 4.0 grade point average and carrying 12 or more credit hours in one semester are placed on the president’s list. They include:

For their academic performance during spring 2013, the following students were named to the University of North Georgia’s merit list. To earn a place on the merit list, a student must attain a 3.5 or higher grade point average with a minimum of nine and less than 15 semester credit hours of academic work in one semester.
Alexander James Colvin, Evans; Anna Ovelle Morris, Appling; Carolyn Gage Calloway, Evans; Christopher Lee Hogue, Evans; Dakota Wade Lyons, Evans; Erin L. The school also awarded commissions as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army or Georgia National Guard, including Matthew R. Hutto, who earned a bachelor’s degree and commissioned into the transportation corps. He is the son of Bryan and Cheryl Hutto of Evans, and a 2008 graduate of Greenbrier High School.
The following Columbia County students received a degree from Emory University at its 168th commencement ceremony.
Shivani Gupta, of Martinez,received a master of laws from the School of Law; Shuai Hao, of Martinez, received a bachelor of arts from Emory College of Arts and Sciences; Stanton Huang, of Martinez, received a master of business administration from the Goizueta Business School; and Joel Joseph, of Martinez, received a bachelor of science from Emory College of Arts and Sciences.
The following students were named to the dean’s list of Emory College of Arts and Sciences, the undergraduate, liberal arts college of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., for the 2013 spring semester. Students must be in the top 20 percent of Emory College or have approximately a 3.85 grade point average or higher to be named to the Dean’s List. They include: Shuai Hao, of Martinez; Liliana Lim Lam, of Martinez; Niyathi Prasad, of Martinez; and Ellen Schafer, of Martinez.
SAVANNAH -- Columbia County residents have been named to the dean’s list at the Savannah College of Art and Design for spring quarter 2013. Full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.5 or above for the quarter receive recognition on the Dean’s List.

APPLETON, WIS. -- Will Evans, the son of Daniel and Abbey Evans, of Martinez, was awarded a bachelor of arts degree in economics Lawrence University at the college’s 164th commencement. Evans is a 2009 graduate of Lakeside High School, Evans.
RICHMOND, Ky. -- A Columbia County student has been named to the Eastern Kentucky University dean’s list. Marc William Aloan, of Grovetown, earned dean’s list honors for the spring 2013 semester. He is a fire protection administration major at EKU. To achieve dean’s list honors at Eastern, students attempting 14 or more credit hours must earn a 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0.
FORT JACKSON, S.C. -- Army National Guard Pvt. Devin E. Moran Sr., son of Gregory and Kelly Rodgers of Grovetown, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, S.C.
