Commission meeting notice

For the month of December, all five Columbia County committee meetings (Audit, Management & Internal Services, Development & Engineering Services, Public Work Services, and Community & Emergency Services) will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 12. Audit will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the other committees immediately following in the order listed above

Dementia Conversations

The Alzheimer's Association presents Dementia Conversations at 10:30, Thursday, Nov. 30. Learn helpful tips to assist families with difficult conversations related to dementia, including going to the doctor, deciding when to stop driving, and making legal and financial plans. Kiwanis meeting

The Columbia County Kiwanis Club will hold its new member meeting Nov. 30 at TBonz on Washington Road in Augusta. Come hear about the needs and success stories for treating autistic spectrum children at Able Tree, an autism treatment center serving children six years old and younger. The center serves families with Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs)

Dance lessons

Harlem Arts Council presents ‘Tis the Season to be Dancing! Registration needed by Nov. 27 for dance day camp for ages 4-10 years of age, with games, crafts, and of course dancing! Block printing

The Harlem Arts Council presents Block Printing your own Christmas cards with Angelika Bondar, from 1 - 3 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 30 at the new Harlem Civic Center. Movie night

Columbia County Community Events presents Christmas Movie Night with the showing of the movie Elf from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1 at Evans Towne Center Park. Free event open to the public. Showtime is 6:30 p.m. Special appearance by Elf on the Shelf, train rides and concessions also available.

Grovetown Christmas Festival

Grovetown Parks and Recreation presents the 2nd Annual Grovetown Christmas Festival form 4 - 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2 at Liberty Park Community Center. Entertainment by local bands, dance and chorus groups, craft, food and other vendors. Enjoy a cup of hot chocolate before the tree lighting and holiday lights within the City. Santa will be present and he's bringing the SNOW too.

Christmas at the Crossroads

Festival of Trees

Downtown Harlem's inaugural Festival of Trees and Holiday Market from 2 - 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2. Festival of downhome wood crafters, jewelers, stained glass, repurposed art, candles, goats milk soaps, lotions, balms and more. Christmas Caroling, real snow, hot cocoa, freshly brewed coffees and teas, S'Mores and the cast of FROZEN! Parade of floats and count down as we light up the Library Plaza with thousands of Christmas Tree lights in the inaugural "Festival of Trees."

Columbia County Community Events presents the 17th Annual Columbia County Christmas Tree Lighting from 2 - 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2 at Evans Towne Center Park. Full Christmas Vendor Village, Free Santa Photos, Free Train Rides, Cookies with Mrs. Claus, Ornament Decorating, Food and Beverage Vendors, 9 holes of North Pole Mini Golf, 1,000-square-foot maze, and more!

Democratic Party meeting

The Columbia County Democratic Party will meet at 6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 4, at the Auditorium of Building A of the Evans Government Center Complex, 630 Ronald Reagan Drive, Evans, GA, 30809. Party members will meet 30 minutes earlier this month because of our annual Christmas party. Please come out and fellowship with party members and others, and at the same time learn about the issues and get involved.

Charles Dickens Christmas

Internationally known storyteller Tim Lowry from Summerville, S.C. will act as Charles Dickens at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 23 at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church at 3551 Wheeler Road in Augusta. Tickets: are $15 and can be purchased at the church office during business hours (M-F 10 AM-2PM) or online at www.standrewpc.com. Program is recommended for ages 10 and above.

Class reunion

Harlem High School class of 1978 is planning a 40th year reunion. If you or anyone you know is a 1978 graduate, please send your name and address to gmclerk1960@yahoo.com. The reunion is planned for Saturday, June 23, 2018.

Fort Gordon retiree council

The Fort Gordon Retiree Council meets quarterly to keep the Fort Gordon command structure aware of issues, concerns and needs of the military retiree population of all branches of service in the Fort Gordon area of responsibility. Volunteers needed

Tax-aide volunteers are needed to join our team of local volunteers for the upcoming tax season. You'll receive training and materials in a welcoming environment. Kiwanis Club

The Columbia County Kiwanis club holds its monthly networking events the second Tuesday of every month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at TBonz in Evans. Club members, friends and relatives are welcome to attend the informal get-together each month. Friends are welcome to attend.

Pet food drive

Pawprints Foundation and Long Dog Rescue are accepting donations of dog, cat, puppy and kitten food year-round at Animal House, Wild Birds Unlimited, Grovetown Farm & Garden, Vineyard Wine Market and Martinez/National Hills Animal Hospitals.
