Sheriff's Office meet

The Columbia County Evans branch library presents Columbia County Sheriff's Office visit at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 30. Visit with the community service division of the Columbia County Sheriff's Office to hear about what police officers do. Located in the children's classroom. No registration. This event will be held in place of preschool class.

Executive Luncheon

Columbia County Chamber of Commerce presents an executive luncheon 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 30, at Savannah Rapids Pavilion. "Be Where Your Feet Are ... Mastering the Moment." Executive Luncheon Series presented by Augusta University. Cost: member tickets: $35, nonmembers: $45, corporate tables (8 seats), $280.

Camera class

The Columbia County Evans Branch Library presents Camera part I - Out of the Box at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 6. Learn the basics of using a digital camera including "What is a Megapixel?" Learn the different types of cameras and memory cards, as well as the basics of photography.

Deer hunting seminar

The Fort Gordon Deer Hunting Seminar will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 2 at the Tactical Advantage Sportsman's Complex. Open to the public for a day of learning at the 2017 Deer Hunting Seminar. Outdoor Recreation will be covering deer calls, food sources, safety as well as ethics. Craft and chat

The Evans branch of the Columbia County library presents Fiber Arts Craft and Chat, Thursday, Sept. 7 at 5:30 p.m. The group meets each month in the cafe area of the library. This group is open to all crafters: crochet, knit, loom, cross stitch, etc. This is basically a low-key crafting meet-up for both people who want to learn as well as those already crafty.

Music Festival

The Diggin' It Music Festival benefitting the Augusta Christian Volleyball Team will be held at 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 9 at the Columbia County Amphitheater in Evans. Tunnel 2 Towers 5k

Greater Augusta Tunnel 2 Towers Run/Walk will be held at 8:46 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 9 at Firestation No. 2 at 5555 Harlem Grovetown Road. The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk Series was created to honor the heroic life and death of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on Sept.ember 11, 2001, after strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers. The event is 2.75 miles, in order to facilitate the significance of starting and ending at the Fire Station. Participants are welcome to walk or run this event. This event is a non-competitive run to honor first responders and raise funds to build smart homes for the most catastrophically injured service members. This event is not chip timed. Geneologists Homecoming Seminar

Research: The Tie That Binds Genealogists - 2017 AGS Homecoming Seminar will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 9 at Wesley United Methodist Church located at 825 N Belair Rd. in Evans. J. Mark Lowe will be in Augusta on Saturday, September 9, as the Augusta Genealogical Society celebrates the 38th anniversary of the founding of the Society in 1979. The seminar will include four lectures by Lowe, and others. CASA Volunteers

CASA will hold a volunteer interest meeting in Columbia and Richmond counties from 1 - 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12 at the Evans courthouse and from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. for Augusta at the downtown Augusta library. Child Enrichment's CASA Program recruits, trains and supervises community volunteers to bring individual attention, urgency, and advocacy to abused and neglected children in the foster care system, both in and out of the court room. CASA's next volunteer training will be held on October 2-12, 2017 at Child Enrichment. Arts buffet

The Evans branch of the Columbia County library presents, Arts & Crafts Buffet at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12 in the children's classroom. No registration required. Dress for a mess and prepare to explore a variety of materials while crafting one-of-a-kind artwork! This is a drop-in event, so don't fret if you can't make it at the beginning of the program.

CRSA College Night will be held from 5 - 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 14 at the James Brown Arena in downtown Augusta. Designed primarily for 11th- and 12th-graders, CSRA College Night provides an opportunity for students, parents and guidance counselors to learn about education opportunities. More than 140 engineering universities and liberal arts colleges/universities from across the United States attend as well as professional societies. Spaghetti supper fundraiser

The Columbia County Cares Food Pantry will hold its 20th annual family Spaghetti Supper from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 21 at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church located at 4921 Columbia Road in Grovetown. Dine in or carry out spaghetti dinner including salad, drink and dessert. Tickets are $8 each or $25 for four tickets. Proceeds benefit the county's food pantry. Fishing Derby and shooting day

Fort Gordon Kid's Fishing Derby and Shooting Day 2017 will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23 at Clay Pit Lakes. Event is free and open to the public. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Claypit Lakes, fishing will begin at 8 a.m.. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded in each age group. The first 300 kids will receive Free T-shirts. Free hot dogs and sodas will be available to each participant. Kids need to bring their own fishing pole (limit of one fishing pole per child). Kid's Shooting Day at the Range 23 September 1-5 p.m. Range 14 Come for an instructional and recreational shooting class. An adult must accompany the kids while on the range. Chorus concert

Harmony River Chorus of Sweet Adelines' International, a member of the Columbia County Arts Council, is performing a fall concert called: "Haunting Harmony" at 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 21, at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 471 W. The Fort Gordon Retiree Council meets quarterly to keep the Fort Gordon command structure aware of issues, concerns and needs of the military retiree population of all branches of service in the Fort Gordon area of responsibility.
