Columbia County Cares Inc. Food Pantry received its strangest but most welcomed donation.

In January, Executive Director Dave Iverson received a phone call from Patty Blanton, of The Summerville Foundation, asking if the food pantry could accept a donation of six cows.

The Happy Valley Processing Plant in Dearing, Ga. processed the cows and Columbia County Cares received the meat.

Columbia County Cares Inc. Food Pantry, located in Appling, has been serving families in Columbia County for 20 years. It is a distribution agency of Golden Harvest Food Bank and is 100 percent volunteer operated and 100 percent donation supported. It is open Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
