The newest Fickle is officially part of the family

Posted: July 22, 2014 - 11:12pm  |  Updated: July 23, 2014 - 1:50am

We have all waited a long time for the adoption to be officially official. We showed up at the Columbia County courthouse for Judge Danny Craig to apply the final touch. At least, half of us were crying when he said that Landon’s last name would be Fickle.

I know several of you reading this know how it feels. Even though you bring a newborn home from the hospital and care for him for several months, the adoption procedure is always on your mind until it’s finalized.

Landon has brought a lot more love and laughter into our family. Having a new little one to spoil has been great for me. This child actually likes for me to sing to him. The “Mockingbird Song” is his favorite. Can you believe that? Nobody likes me to sing. In fact, it scares most people to death. Not Landon! He’s a very brave little boy.

The next step is getting him to say “Granny.” He’s got “mama,” “dada” and “bye-bye” perfected. It will come. I just have to be patient.

At least, he knows who I am. I’ll never forget the first time he actually reached out for me. Trust me when I say it did bring tears.

Tommy and Monique are the best parents I’ve ever seen. Of course, I am a little partial. You should see their eyes light up when they’re playing with him. Landon has discovered that he loves Mickey Mouse. He now has a Mickey play room. The walls are painted in Disney colors, there’s a Mickey toy chest with lots of toys stuffed in it. There’s also shelves overflowing with books they read to him every day and lots of Mickey figurines.

We took him to the beach a couple of weeks ago and discovered he also has a love for blondes. Everybody was coming up to him and baby-talking, but he did not pay any attention to the men or brunettes.

The child also has no fear, which kind of scares me a little. His dad could dunk him under water and it didn’t bother him one bit.

My older grandkids, Jay and Sarah, love their little brother to bits. Of course, Sarah has blonde hair, so Landon kind of favors her.

It just makes me so proud to talk about all my kids. Now there’s one more to love. By the time this year is over, you will all probably be very bored hearing about him.

Many people complain about our court system. I have done so many times, but it worked great for us and I want to thank everyone involved for making this a smooth transaction. You have made one Columbia County family very happy.
