Grovetown Lions Club turkey shoot series opens Sept. 27

Posted: September 11, 2013 - 12:03am

The Grovetown Lions Club will kick off its annual turkey shoot fundraising series Sept. 27, with shooting every Friday and Saturday night through Dec. 14.

Participants can win half hams, pork loins, Boston butts, ribs — and of course turkeys, while generating proceeds benefiting community projects.

“The shoot is every Friday and Saturday night starting around 7 p.m., but gates open at 6,” said club president Gary Rausch. “We shoot 12, 20 and .410 gauge shotguns this year and we provide the shells.”

The competition allows 10 shooters per round who fire at a target 30 yards away. The person with a pellet the closest to the center “X” wins that round’s prize, Rausch said.

All shoots will be held at 1200 Old Louisville Road, Grovetown, where there is also a fire pit, family fun and concessions. There is no charge to watch, and shooters pay $4 per shot.

The club uses the proceeds for projects including Camp for the Blind, Empty Stocking Fund, Toys for Tots, vision screenings, eye glasses, seeing eye dogs, eye surgeries, hearing aids, ear surgeries, Annual Senior Citizens Dinner and the Grovetown Food Pantry.
