Scholarship

Arlyn Bateman of Evans was awarded the Lake Forest College Presidential Scholarship for out-of-state students and the Forester Johnson Science Scholarship. Bateman attended Greenbrier High School and is expected to graduate in 2016.

Bethel grant

Eric Preheim, a graduate of Lakeside High School, received the Dean’s Scholarship from Bethel College for the 2012-13 academic year. The scholarship is valued at $28,000 over a four-year period. He is the son of Brian and Cynthia Preheim of Martinez.

Inductees

Georgia Health Sciences University Columbia County students initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, a national collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines were: Meagan Hamilton of Evans, nursing; James Maina of Grovetown, biology; Amanda Barrett of Martinez, medicine.

Ashland grad

Abby Jurkovic of Evans received a master of education degree from Ashland University at the Winter Commencement ceremony on Dec. 15, 2012. Jurkovic majored in educational administration.

NSUL graduate

Shelita Jones of Martinez received a bachelor of science in nursing degree from Northwestern State University of Louisiana in December, 2012 during fall commencement.

Berry graduate

Nicole Pearre of Evans graduated from Berry College with a bachelor of science degree in psychology in December, 2012.

Clemson grads

Kevin Barnes Caughman of Martinez graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor of science in financial management and Matthew Patrick Wehman of Martinez graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor of science in marketing from Clemson University in December, 2012.

The Citadel grad

Brandon Clark McCladdie of Martinez, a Dean’s List honoree, graduated in December 2012 from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. McCladdie was a member of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and earned a bachelor of science in physical education sports management and administration degree.

Tech grads

The following students received undergraduate degrees from Georgia Tech in December 2012: James Baunchalk of Evans received a MS in mechanical engineering; Michael Butts of Evans received a BS in computer science; Alan Nafarrete of Evans received a BS in biomedical engineering; Nathaniel Vanvliet of Evans received a BS in mechanical engineering; Matthew Dosch of Martinez received a BS in mechanical engineering; Adam Henry of Martinez received a BS in civil engineering; Andrew Pak of Martinez received a BS in industrial design; Patrick Tynan of Martinez received a BS in electrical engineering; and Prateek Kumar of Augusta received a BS in business administration.

GSWSU grads

The following students received undergraduate degrees from Georgia Southwestern State University in December 2012: Christopher Hall of Evans graduated with a bachelor of science in political science and Casey Hicks of Evans graduated with a bachelor of arts in history.

VSU grads

The following students received undergraduate degrees from Valdosta State University in December 2012: Eleanor Jane Paschal of Evans, bachelor of arts in Spanish; Morgan Elizabeth Brazell of Evans, bachelor of science in education, early childhood education; Melissa Lynn Johnson of Grovetown, master of library and information science; Cedric Jamal Wiltz of Augusta, bachelor of science in organizational leadership; and John Patrick Davison of Augusta, bachelor of business administration in international business.

Armstrong grads

The following students have received undergraduate degrees from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Ga.: McKaylie Diehl of Evans, bachelor of liberal studies in liberal studies; Amanda Hollar of Evans, graduated with a bachelor of science in nursing; Katherine Sparks of Evans, bachelor of science in nursing; Lauren McDonagh of Augusta, bachelor of liberal studies in liberal studies; Asia O’Bryant of Augusta, bachelor of science in biology.
