Columbia County school hearings

• A Lakeside High School student went before the school system hearing officer on Oct. 16 for possession of marijuana and was suspended for the remainder of this school year’s first semester with the option to attend the Columbia County Alternative School.

• A Lakeside High School student went before the hearing officer on Oct. 16 for possession of pills and a knife and was expelled for the remainder of this school year’s first semester and was sent to the alternative school for the second semester.

• An Evans High School student went before the hearing officer on Oct. 16 for accumulation of offenses and was expelled for this school year with the option to attend the alternative school.

• A Grovetown High School student went before the hearing officer on Oct. 17 for possession of pills and was expelled for the remainder of this school year’s first semester and was sent to the alternative school for the second semester.

• Four Grovetown High School students went before the hearing officer on Oct. 17 for possession of alcohol and were suspended for the remainder of this school year’s first semester with the option to attend the alternative school.

• A Grovetown High School special needs student went before the hearing officer on Oct. 17 for possession of alcohol and was remanded to the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Committee for punishment.

• A Grovetown High School student went before the hearing officer on Oct. 17 for possession of Midol and was remanded to the school with time served.

• A Grovetown High School student went before the hearing officer on Oct. 17 for possession of prescription drugs and was suspended for the remainder of this school year’s first semester with the option to attend the alternative school.

• An Evans High School student went before the hearing officer on Oct. 18 for accumulation of offenses (truancy) and was given long-term out-of-school suspension and in-school suspension for 15 days.
