Enlistments

John D. Hearn, son of Tamela K. Hearn of North Augusta, S.C., and John D. Hearn, of Martinez, enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N. C. Hearn will report for active duty to undergo basic training at the Navy’s Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill. Hearn is a 2012 graduate of Lakeside High School.

John I. Takahashi, son of Yong S. and Bert H. Takahashi, of Evans, recently enlisted in the United States Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N. C. Takahashi is a 2008 graduate of Greenbrier High School.

Chadd A. Thomas, son of Erica L. Thomas of Martinez, and Freddie Thomas, of Alpharetta, Ga., recently enlisted in the United States Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N. C. Thomas will report for active duty to undergo basic training at the Navy’s Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.

Brandon Keip, son of Jessica Powell Ferrell, of Evans, recently enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program. Keip is a graduate of Lincoln County High School.

Ashamonique M. Willis, daughter of Mayreather Willis and Anthony Willis, of Grovetown, recently enlisted in the United States Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. Willis is a 2009 graduate of Evans High School.

Deployment returns

Army Reserve Sgt. Harley W. Smith has returned to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., after being deployed to Iraq serving in support of Operation New Dawn. Smith is a signals intelligence analyst with the 373rd Military Intelligence Battalion, Tumwater, Wash. He is the son of Barbara Smith-Maddox, of Grovetown.

Military honors

Army Cadet William C. Cordes, a cadet from Kansas State University, served as a cadet marshal during the U.S. Army National Combine in San Antonio, Texas, in January as part of the U.S. Army All American Bowl Week. Cordes is the son of Jane and Michael Cordes, of Leavenworth, Kansas, and grandson of Beverly Cordes, of Boise, Idaho. Cordes graduated in 2008 from Evans High School.

Military training graduates

Navy Seaman Christopher C. M. Barnes, son of Jennifer E. Barnes of Martinez, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Barnes is a 2007 graduate of Harlem High School.

Christopher Anthony Montiel, the son of Angel and Angelica Montiel of Evans, recently completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C., and graduated on Sept. 9.

Army National Guard Pfc. Larry L. Buser has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Buser is the son of Larry and Sharon Buser of Grovetown and a 2009 graduate of Evans High School.

Army National Guard Pfc. Jeynelle G. McGann has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. McGann is the daughter of Morton McGann of Martinez and Gaynell Wright of Brooklyn, N.Y.

Navy Midshipman David A. Tisler, a 2011 graduate of Augusta Preparatory Day School, and more than 900 other freshmen recently completed Plebe Summer while attending the United States Naval Academy. Plebe summer is the summer training program, which is required of all incoming freshmen to the U.S. Naval Academy. Tisler will go on to complete the academic year as a midshipman.

Navy Midshipman Robert L. Allen, son of Jennifer E. and Brook E. Allen of Evans, recently completed Plebe Summer while attending the United States Naval Academy. Allen will go on to complete the academic year as a midshipmen. He is a 2011 graduate of Greenbrier High School.

Marine Corps Pfc. James K. Perry, son of Dawn L. Johnston of Jackson, S.C., and James K. Perry of Martinez, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Air Force Airman James J. Demons Jr. graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Demons is the son of Beverly Demons of Appling and a 2008 graduate of Evans Christian Academy.

Marine Corps Pvt. Gage I. Drew, son of Susan R. Drew of Peachtree City, Ga., and Frank I. Drew, of Evans, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Department of the Army Civilian Tony D. Butler has graduated from the Army Inspector General (IG) Course at Fort Belvoir, Fairfax, Va. The three-week course is required for all soldiers and civilians selected to serve as Army inspectors general. He is the son of Louise Butler of Thomson.

Air Force Airman 1st Class John R. Hobert graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Hobert is a 2002 graduate of Evans High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 2008 from the Augusta State University.
