As reported 55 years ago in the pages of The Columbia News, Thursday, Jan. 10, 1957:
Columbia County schools reopened for work on Monday morning, Jan. 7.
The generous holiday has been employed in recreation, catching up on loose ends at home, resting, and looking forward to an even greater effort in the months to come.
The State Highway Patrol announces that they will be in Columbia County every Thursday for the sale of licenses to automobile drivers.
They plan to be in Harlem at the City Hall from 10 a.m. to noon, and in Appling from 1 to 5 p.m.
