I haven't been with The Mirror very long. I came in January after being unemployed for five months. In the past, I wrote for a small weekly newspaper in North Augusta. I loved getting to know the people and telling their stories.

"Once I had a bird come in from a race and zoom by me and circle around to come into the loft, and then he flew back by in a big arc with a hawk after him. Pretty amazing birds, that even after flying for 200 miles, they can still outrun a hawk.

These kittens are among the pets available for adoption from Columbia County Animal Services. For more information, call (706) 541-4077 or visit www.columbiacountyga.gov and follow the links to Animal Services. Adult animals cost $25 to adopt and the adoption fee for puppies and kittens is $20. All animals must be spayed or neutered. The kennel is open from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays for adoptions and visiting with the animals, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to reclaim a lost pet and all other services. The facility is located at 1940 William Few Parkway.
