Columbia County sheriff's Lt. John Cook put on his uniform, badge and gun to protect and serve every morning for more than 40 years.
Thursday marked the last of his nearly four decades with the sheriff's office, his retirement.
A Martinez woman was charged with shoplifting for the fourth time Thursday. Sara Anne Newsome, 36, of Holly Road, was seen on camera attempting to steal a four-pack of Pilot pins and ear-stud earrings from the Wal-Mart on Deans Bridge Road, according to an incident report from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
