The McDuffie County Planning Commission has voted against allowing the sheriff's department to construct a firearms training center northwest of Thomson. At its Jan. 3 meeting, the planners voted 2-1 to recommend the gun range be denied.

The McDuffie County Hospital Board voted Thursday to hire Sandra I. McVicker, an employee of University Hospital, as administrator of McDuffie Regional Medical Center. The board has entered into an agreement to sell the hospital to University.

FATZ® is pleased to host a pancake breakfast at 464 East Belair Road restaurant in Evans, Ga., on Jan. 28, 2012, to benefit Lakeside High School Baseball. From 8 – 10 a.m., FATZ® will open its doors to members of the community and transform into a hotspot for hotcakes to raise money to support the Lakeside High School Baseball team. Proceeds from the breakfast will be used for new uniforms, equipment and travel expenses. The team is looking forward to the 2012 season with hopes of bringing home a championship title.
