A new clock in Harlem marks the passage of time, but it also presides over a record of city leaders.

The clock was installed in front of Harlem City Hall thanks to a private donation.

“The clock is given by the Eugene Clary Foundation to honor the past, present and future mayors of Harlem, one of which was Gene Clary’s father, William C. Clary Sr.,” said a spokesman for the foundation, who wished to remain anonymous, but was active in the project planning.

Planning for what they expect to be a busy spring and summer on the lake, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary members this weekend will teach a course on boating safety.

The course will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at the Thurmond Lake Visitor’s Center, at 510 Clarks Hill Highway in Clarks Hill, S.C., just across the dam. The class costs $20 for individual boaters and $30 for boating families.

Columbia County’s exhibition hall near Grovetown won’t open for a couple of months, but officials have taken the first step toward setting rental rates for the facility.

Members of the county commission’s Community and Emergency Services Committee on Tuesday approved the fees for the facility, now under construction at the Gateway Center on Horizon South Parkway at Interstate 20.
