Standing around a display table, a group of health science and anatomy students at Lakeside High School timidly poked at a human brain.

“It was really cool,” Lakeside High senior Taylor Aune said of the experience. “It’s rubbery, almost like Silly Putty.”

The 17-year-old and his classmates took part Friday in a special program organized by Georgia Health Science University neuroscience students to showcase the complexities of the brain.

Erin Scott, a fourth- year neurology student at GHSU, organized the event to cap off Brain Awareness Week.

Plans to add more bicycling and walking options in the Augusta area will be unveiled Thursday in Evans.

The Augusta Regional Transportation Study intends to show bicycle and pedestrian plans outlining new policies, programs and expansion of routes during a public meeting 5-7 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium of the Evans Government Center on Ronald Reagan Drive.

“Whether it is for transportation, exercise or relaxing with the family, more and more people see bicycling and walking as an important part of their quality life and health,” according to the ARTS press release.

Evans Towne Center Park is the place to be this weekend for anyone interested in the great outdoors.

The fourth annual RV and Boat Show has moved from Wildwood Park at Clarks Hill Lake to the Evans park to make the event more accessible to the public, said Wildwood Coordinator Jeb Bell.

“It’s a free event now, plus everybody doesn’t have to come up here to the lake,” he said.
