Felon arrested for having gun

A convicted felon from Augusta was arrested Tuesday for carrying a gun.

Christopher David Wilmer, 23, of Garr Drive, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Worker dies after injury

An Augusta man burned last month while working at a Martinez glass business died Monday.

Jesse James Crosby, 40, was severely burned on his head, arms and torso Oct. 26 as he worked at O’Brien’s Glass at 3842 Washington Road.

Owner Dave O’Brien said Cosby was working on laminated glass using denatured alcohol and a flame. The can of alcohol exploded. Cosby ran through the shop until a colleague used a fire extinguisher.

Girl drowns in Evans pool

A 4-year-old Evans girl drowned in her family’s swimming pool Thursday.

Joe Brice Kerns III, 35, called police just after 5 p.m. and said he found his daughter, Jayden, in the family swimming pool at their Rutledge Way home, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

Kerns said he left Jayden in the backyard playing with the water hose while he went inside to change his baby’s diaper. When he returned three or four minutes later, he couldn’t find Jayden, the report stated.

A judge granted bond Friday for two teens accused in an armed home invasion on Oct. 30.

Four teens and an 11-year-old were arrested Oct. 30, accused of the armed home invasion in Grovetown.

Superior Court Judge Albert Pickett set $20,000 bonds for armed robbery charges against Nicholas Dwight Blodgett, 17, of Magnolia Parkway in Grovetown, and Mario Lavache Jones Jr., 17, of Milledgeville Road in Augusta, at a bond hearing Friday.
