The following accounts were taken from Columbia County Sheriff's Office incident reports:

Hotel's stolen TV returned

A hotel owner refused to press charges against a family after a TV they were accused of stealing was returned.

Police were called to America's Best Value Hotel on Belair Frontage Road to reports of a theft. Upon arrival police were told by the hotel owner that a television had been stolen from another room.

The owner said he had surveillance video footage of the man taking the television and that he was another resident in the neighboring room, living with his wife and children.

The video shows the man exiting the vacant room No. 109 with a large square item covered by a bed sheet, and carried the item back to his neighboring room where he was staying in No. 106, according to the incident report.

Moments later a white SUV backed into the parking spot in front of the hotel room and the man placed the item in the back of the SUV. At that time, the man's wife and children came outside and looked at the item in the back of the SUV before the door was shut and the driver took the item away.

Police contacted the couple and told them they had been seen on video committing the theft, however both denied any participation. Police explained the severity of the situation of the crime being committed in front of the children.

The hotel owner stated he would not prosecute if the television was returned in good condition. The woman made contact with an unknown subject who stated they would deliver the TV to a random location and would advise of the location once they left.

Police recovered the television at Brigadier Landing subdivision and returned it to the hotel owner. No charges were filed.
