Man arrested for striking girlfriend
A man was arrested after hitting a woman over the head with a lamp during a domestic dispute.

Roger Neal told police that he had struck his girlfriend after she put her hand over his mouth to quiet him. Neal said that his girlfriend threw a punch at him, escalating the fight.

The victim told police that she confronted Neal about a text message she received, when he began to yell at her. The victim stated that she put her hand over his mouth when he began to yell because her daughter was sleeping.

The victim said Neal became aggressive and started pushing her around the bedroom. When she ran into the bathroom and locked the door, he unlocked the door and grabbed her by the arms and drug her out of the bathroom. The victim said Neal continued to push her around the bedroom, before grabbing a lamp from the dresser and hitting her on the back of her head. The strike caused a laceration and severe bleeding, according to police.

The victim also had a bruised cheek and bruises on her forearms. She was transported to Doctors Hospital for treatment, while Neal was booked into the Columbia County Detention Center on a battery charge.

Three middle school students admitted to consuming alcohol on the school's campus

The assistant principal at Riverside Middle School called police Tuesday after she said she received information that three students were seen outside during PE class drinking from a small glass bottle the day before.

The assistant principal told police that one of the juveniles had admitted to bringing the small bottle of vodka to school to share with the other two students. The empty bottle was found in a trash can near the gymnasium at the school.

All three juveniles were released to their parents and will be disciplined through the school.
