Man arrested on robbery charge

A man wanted for robbing and assaulting a man with a tire iron is in custody.

On Jan. 2, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office released a photo of David Daniel Mooneyhan and sought the public's help in locating him. He was booked into the Richmond County jail Wednesday on a charge of robbery by force.

According to an incident report, Mooneyhan, 23, went to the door of a previous employer Feb. 1 inquiring about getting a few hours of work a week to help pay for probation costs.

The victim told police he invited Mooneyhan into his Belair Road home to discuss the request. Once inside, Mooneyhan told the victim that a man instructed him to get $20,000 from him or he would kill his child.

He then struck the victim repeatedly on the head with a tire iron.

Mooneyhan left after the victim handed over several hundred dollars.
The victim got into his vehicle and stopped a Columbia County sheriff's deputy who took him to Doctors Hospital. The report states the victim had a broken forearm and a fractured bone above his eye.

Sex offender arrested
A sex offender recently released from prison was arrested Monday after he allegedly performed a sexual act in a Columbia County fitness center.

Deputies were called to Anytime Fitness, 341 Furys Ferry Road, about 4 p.m. Monday after a female patron reported seeing a man in jeans, a button down shirt and tattoos with his hand inside his pants, apparently masturbating. She told police she noticed him staring at her while they both were using the elliptical machines. He then moved to a machine behind her when she noticed the act.

According to an incident report, he left as she contacted a desk attendant but returned briefly to get a blue folder he left by the machine. He was gone when police arrived. A manager said the man was not a member and did not have permission to be in the facility. He told authorities he wished to prosecute for trespassing.

A man matching the description was soon located by deputies. He was identified as Jesse Sean Duncan, 39, who is a registered sex offender and was released from Calhoun State Prison on Feb. 3. According to the Georgia Department of Corrections, he was serving a three year sentence for a charge of possession of a controlled substance in Richmond County.

According to the sex offender registry, his sex crimes include an attempted sexual assault in Nebraska in 2000 and a statutory rape charge in Georgia in 2006.

Duncan began complaining of chest pains while being transported to the sheriff's office. An ambulance took him to University Hospital for treatment. Upon his release several hours later, he was booked into the Columbia County Detention Center on charges of failure to register as a sex offender and criminal trespass.
